I’m 25 years old and I’m trying to find my own path to inner and outer peace.  I am spending my fifth trip to Bosnia and Herzegovina as another piece of experience to teach me about myself and my pursuit of a career in conflict resolution and peacebuiding.  After some incredible stints in Washington DC, South Africa, and Ireland working and studying conflict resolution, international development, and economic justice, I’m eager to find professional and personal fulfillment.  I’m ready to find a place I can grow personally and professionally as a peacebuilder and a woman who is healthy and comfortable in her own skin, and that place just might be the Balkans.

For some time – several months at least – I will be dedicating my time as a full time volunteer (yes, volunteer – since I have saved up my money after months of a salary in DC) with a small organization in Northwest Bosnia.  The Center for Peacebuiding, in Sanski Most, does incredible grassroots peace work including interfaith dialogue, peace education of youth, and trauma healing for any and all those members of the community who need it.  As I have known this organization for four years, and its Director has helped me as a mentor and friend in many ways, I hope to give back a little through my own communications and development experience.  I also hope to gain a better, working knowledge of the Bosnian language and trauma healing and mediation skills.

I’m not sure where life will take me next (Uganda, Nepal, Georgia!?), but I know it will be interesting and challenging.  Read more about my previous work in Bosnia here: http://advocacynet.org/page/jdowling
